Our Staff

We have amazing coaches!  In addition to the program that Caren Horstmeyer created,  we have often had several of the women from the Cal Bears basketball team and other top collegiate athletes as our coaches!  Several of our coaches have made it to the WNBA!  While the "best of the best" are very exciting, Caren is very interested in growing our campers into coaches.  Each year we have a huge staff, because our campers have grown up and want to come back.  While we only host camp for one week a year, it really is like a family reunion each year run by Caren Horstmeyer and co-directed by C.J. Healy.


CAREN HORSTMEYER - Director
Caren Horstmeyer is a former Pac-10, West Coast Conference and NCAA District VIII Coach of the Year.  In 2019 Caren was inducted into the West Coast Conference Hall of Fame, recognized for her pioneering impact on women's basketball.  She was the head women's basketball coach at the University of California, Berkeley and Santa Clara University for 17 cumulative years. She grew up in Marin County, a Greenbrae Elementary, Adeliene E. Kent Junior High, and Redwood High School graduate. She is a member of the Redwood High School, Marin County and Santa Clara University Athletic Hall of Fame. After her playing career in the states, she played professionally in Athens, Greece. She earned her bachelor and masters degree from Santa Clara University. Caren lives in Marin with her husband, Bill and their two children, Arend and Kylie. Caren has run camps for 20 years and enjoys her work as a real estate consultant, assisting buyers and sellers locally. She is also available for basketball consulting for individuals and teams.

C.J. HEALY
C.J. is an amazing teacher of the game and specializes in working with post players. She came to Marin from Canada where she played College Basketball (St. Francis Xavier and University of Ottawa) and had tryouts with the National Team. She is a P.E. Teacher at San Rafael High School and a mother of 3! C.J. plays in women's leagues around the Bay Area including the Summer SF Pro Am. She has coached Varsity and Freshmen basketball at San Rafael High School and has assisted Coach Horstmeyer for the past ten years at Caren Horstmeyer's Girls Basketball Camp. Basketball is Coach C.J.'s love, second to her own kids, and she is really excited for this year's camp!

KC Cavanagh
Doing all the things for camp that are needed off the court, you'll find KC making camp happen.  When not administrating Horstmeyer Hoops, KC is a piano teacher and creator of the KC & Friends piano method.  She lives and teaches in Berkeley currently, but has spent many years in Marin teaching lots of kids.  KC credits summer camps with making her see her real potential and is thrilled to be able to create a positive environment where girls can learn skills for both on and off the basketball court.
